The Xunta It highlights the intensive work carried out by companies such as Altia in support of climate neutrality and their contribution to Galicia increasing its resilience and continuing to lead the fight against global warming.
The Regional Minister for the Environment and Climate Change, Ángeles Vázquez, visited our data center in Vigo on Tuesday, where she witnessed our excellent work in assessing the environmental aspects of our work sites. In fact, we were the first Galician technology company to join the Galician Climate Alliance, in October of last year.
The regional leader, who was accompanied by Ana Ortiz, the regional delegate of the Xunta in Vigo, explained that this visit is part of the program of meetings initiated by the Galician government to learn about the progress made by the entities that joined the alliance in their goal of preserving the environment and achieving climate neutrality. In this regard, she emphasized the importance of intensifying public-private collaboration and pledged the support of the Xunta de Galicia to the business and social fabric with the aim of exerting a driving force in climate governance.
Ángeles Vázquez recalled that Galicia is the Spanish region with the greatest reduction in polluting emissions (-60%) compared to 1990, the year used as a global benchmark for climate policies. It is also the region with the greatest capacity to absorb carbon dioxide in the country, one in every five tons captured in Spain. Furthermore, net greenhouse gas emissions in Galicia have fallen by 19.5% in the last four years, three times the Spanish and European average.
The regional leader also highlighted the Resilient Galicia service, a pioneering technical office promoting climate change adaptation initiatives that is already operational to provide specialized advice to entities that are members of the Galician Climate Alliance and the Mayoral Pact for Climate and Energy that require it. In fact, it is working to support both the productive sector and local authorities.
In our case, the head of Environment and Climate Change emphasized that we are a company committed to cross-sector partnerships to effectively address environmental issues and that we exemplify good practices in various areas. Among these, she highlighted our active promotion of recycling and reuse of materials —promoting resource conservation and waste reduction —by donating reconditioned equipment, which helps minimize its environmental impact.
Along these lines, Ángeles Vázquez emphasized that Altia is always committed to growing sustainably and safely, as well as our commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. Our efforts towards sustainability resulted last year in a 70% reduction in electricity consumption, a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and the delivery of more than 750 kilos of waste for reuse or recovery.
