On November 27th, the awards ceremony for the 33rd edition of the Gallegos del Año Awards was held: an initiative of El Correo Gallego recognizes various figures for their contribution to Galicia in areas ranging from sports to the economy.
The event brought together institutional representatives, business leaders, and members of the Galician cultural community, who emphasized the value of these awards, now firmly established within the region. The ceremony highlighted the importance of recognizing achievements that contribute to the social and economic development of Galicia, reinforcing the role of role models who inspire new generations.
This year, Constantino Fernández, president of ALTIA, was recognized in the economics and entrepreneurship category. In his acceptance speech, he emphasized that “ this award is a symbol of the great moment the ICT sector is experiencing in Galicia. Our companies are growing, internationalizing, and competing in markets where nothing is given away. It is an honor to receive this award and, above all, an impetus to move forward with greater ambition, more energy, and greater commitment .”
In the other categories, the winners were Ana Peleteiro, awarded in culture and sports; Mabel Loza, professor of pharmacology at USC, distinguished in science and research; Manuel Rivas, recognized in arts and communication; and Emilio Pérez Nieto, honorary president of the Pérez Rumbao Group, awarded in politics and society.
Awards like this symbolize Galicia's potential to compete in major markets. In a region where we have the talent and a strong business sector, we will continue working to compete with the best.
