We conclude the 6th edition of Altia Premia, an initiative that recognizes excellence in university projects with applications in the technological field. This year, the award went to Mis Pictocuentos: animated and interactive stories for everyone, a project developed by Martín Omil Nogales that promotes innovation in education and stands out for its focus on accessibility and digital inclusion.

The competition, organized in collaboration with the School of Engineering (ETSE) of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), is part of Altia's vision to strengthen the connection between universities and businesses, focusing on the development of digital capabilities and the training of future professionals in the sector. Since its inception, Altia Premia has promoted initiatives in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital health, and the Internet of Things, reaffirming its role as a catalyst for emerging talent.

Technology and inclusion in the educational field

The award-winning project, Mis Pictocuentos, is a web application designed to facilitate the comprehension and cognitive development of children with oral communication difficulties, such as those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The platform allows users to create scenes with characters and backgrounds, add dialogue automatically translated into pictograms, and include music or voice narration, providing an immersive experience tailored to their needs.

The app was tested by speech therapy professionals from the University of A Coruña and by primary and early childhood education professionals from the University of Santiago de Compostela, who verified its usefulness in teaching vocabulary and concepts in a playful way, stimulating creativity, and improving children's communication skills.

“I applied to Altia Premia because I was very proud of my Final Degree Project,” says Martín Omil Nogales, creator of Mis Pictocuentos . “During the last year, I invested many hours of effort to achieve a result with which I was completely satisfied. Winning this award is a validation of the work done on my Final Degree Project and, also, over the four years of my degree. It also represents a very special way for me to close this stage of my career , since I was unable to celebrate my high school graduation due to the pandemic.”
